Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
Hello. You may find yourself here looking for some support in your life and wondering if therapy can help you. Counselling and psychotherapy offer a secure and confidential environment where you can discuss whatever brings you, express difficult thoughts and feelings, and talk and be heard in a way that can facilitate change. I can support you to come to terms with who you are and what’s happened in your life, so you can become who you want to be.
Whatever brings you to therapy, we can explore what’s going on, at a pace that’s right for you. I hope you’ll feel able to be yourself with me, whoever you are and whatever has happened in your life. I offer both support and challenge, without judgment. I don’t offer advice; I will champion your autonomy and your capacity to make choices.
People come to counselling and psychotherapy for many different reasons. You may be living with anxiety or depression. You may be feeling overwhelmed by a current situation at work or in a relationship. You may be struggling with persistent and unwanted thoughts, feelings or behaviours. You may be haunted by past experiences that overshadow your present and future. Or you may want more joy and fulfilment out of life and wonder what gets in the way. I'm experienced in working with clients on these and many other issues (please see list below).
I’m a professionally qualified, registered, Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, which means I am trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, humanistic, body and contemporary relational psychotherapy, and I integrate a combination of these different approaches to best work in relationship with you as a unique individual. Integrative therapy is also about personal integration – that is, becoming aware of, coming to terms with and integrating different parts of ourselves and our experiences so we can feel more whole, both in mind and body. This can be an empowering process (and at times an uncomfortable one) that liberates us from limiting thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and frees us to make choices.
Whatever the therapeutic approach, research shows that ‘the therapeutic alliance’ is what makes therapy effective – that is, your confidence in me and in the therapy. So choosing a therapist you feel you can work with – and who feels they can help you - is important. I suggest having a session with me to discuss what’s brought you to counselling and to see what it’s like to talk with me, before deciding whether to continue. If you continue, we’ll work collaboratively and can always discuss how you feel your therapy – and our working relationship - is going. I offer both short-term and longer term or open-ended therapy and we can discuss what may best suit you at this time. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any queries or you'd like to find out more or visit my website www.togetherme.uk
