Psychodynamic psychotherapistAbout Me
Deciding to take up therapy can feel like a daunting and uncertain step. If you are suffering in some way, or if something just doesn't seem right in you, I offer a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can explore whether therapy is something you think might be helpful for you at this time in your life.
About Me
Many different reasons can bring someone to therapy. It may be you want things to be different, but feel stuck and unable to change. Perhaps you have suffered from trauma, abuse, or loss. You may be going through a difficult transition. If you feel overwhelmed, terribly unhappy, or alone, then talking with a professional can help. My focus is on your emotional wellbeing. I provide a safe and confidential space to think and talk about things together. Whether your problems are rooted in the past or something more recent, I believe long lasting change is possible by exploring the underlying meaning of your thoughts and feelings, behaviour, and relationships with others. A psychodynamic approach focuses on assisting you to work through dynamics that might be keeping you in a way of being that is inhibiting or painful, so that you can come alive and reach your potential in life. Simply call or email me to discuss further, or to book an initial consultation.
I have worked with adults from a diverse range of social and ethnic backgrounds, experiencing a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, low mood, poor self-esteem, abuse, personality disorders, social anxiety, sexual issues, identity issues, trauma, loss, relationship problems, PTSD, OCD.
I have a special interest in relationship issues, and trauma. I work as a psychotherapist in the specialist Trauma Unit at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
I am a senior yoga teacher (YAP accredited) and have extensive knowledge of working with mindfulness, somatic symptoms and the link between the mind and body.
I trained in Inter-cultural Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the world renowned Tavistock Clinic. I have an MA in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the University of Essex, and a certificate in counselling skills from The WPF. I am MBACP registered.
Your Counselling Sessions
I start with an initial assessment consultation, which takes place over two sessions. During this time we can think together about whether psychodynamic therapy is something that is suitable for you, while you can ask questions, experience how I work, and decide whether you feel comfortable working with me.
Most of my work is open ended, however time limited treatment is also possible.
Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the agreed time each week, except during bank holidays and breaks (summer, Easter, and Christmas).
