Sally Klinkenborg
Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I have been working as a psychotherapist for 17 years now and really enjoy my work. It can be very rewarding to help people make the changes that are important to them in their lives. I also worked as a nurse for many years and so I have some medical knowledge that can be very useful. I retired from nursing three years ago and still use many of the skills I learnt, such as making priorities and good time management. And I found that the two professions complemented each other very well.
I am a Buddhist, but don't worry, I won't be trying to convert you! But what I do, if people are interested, is to teach some Buddhist philosophy as this can be really helpful in managing anxiety and lifting depression, and with many other issues.
When I started my first therapy training back in 2003, it was as a result of receiving really good counselling following a traumatic family bereavement. I thought that I would like to be able to help other people as I had been helped and so I started my journey as a therapist four years after my bereavement.
I work interactively with people. In other words a therapy session is a two-way process, with a discussion taking place and an opportunity to ask questions. I always listen to clients, but I often make suggestions too. I have found that I can learn so much from my clients, as well as hopefully teaching them some useful tools to manage their anxiety or depression, for example. I used to run meditation groups and one to one anxiety management courses, which I hope I will be able to resume later this year as the restrictions lift. In the meantime, I offer remote therapy by video calls, phone calls or emails.
I specialise in anxiety, depression and bereavement, but am happy to work with many other issues as well. Now that I have been working for a long time I have had the opportunity to study and work with many different people and I have learnt so much from them. I believe that the most important thing with any client whatever their problem, is to see the real person behind that issue and to make a meaningful connection with that person.
As I found from my own experience, therapy can literally change your life so please get in touch if you would like to arrange an appointment with me.
