Rhona Wooldridge
Integrative therapistAbout Me
Over the years my work has concentrated on the psychological presentations of unresolved childhood trauma, early attachment issues, childhood sexual, emotional and physical abuse. In adulthood this can lead to emotional difficulties in managing anxiety, personal and work relationships. The result of traumatic experiences are the effects past events have on in the present. My approach is to help develop greater insight, confidence and resilience, and learn to safety manage past traumatic experiences, and work towards solutions that are right for you.
As an Integrative therapist I apply various theoretical models to the way I think and work rather than relying solely on one model.
In the first instance I invite you to an Initial Consultation which lasts for 50 minutes. This gives you the opportunity to discuss your needs in more detail and to ask any questions you may have to help decide if my way of working is right for you. There is no commitment at this stage.
There are periodic reviews which allows time to reflect on our work thus far and decide what, if any, further work is required. My approach to therapy is to always work towards a healthy ending.
For many years I have worked with people in different, challenging environments. In the United States, I worked with families and young people on a Native American Indian reservation in North Dakota, and with disaffected youths in Chicago. In the UK, I have worked in prisons, in the community with ex-offenders, refugees, and asylum seekers, the homeless and unemployed. My work in prisons led me to want to develop a more in-depth way of working with individuals' emotional difficulties. I also wanted to incorporate my experience as a coach with therapy. I trained as a counsellor at the Minster Centre in London, an organisation that has a reputation for post graduate training which is rigorous and demanding. For several years I offered my services as a volunteer therapist with 'One in Four', a London based charity providing counselling support for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The majority of my clients at 'One in Four' experienced complex and unresolved trauma which in adulthood led to abusive relationships, substance abuse and PTSD.
I adhere to the Ethical Frameworks of both the BACP and the Association for Coaching.
