Emma Osler
Psychodynamic psychotherapistAbout Me
I offer in-person private psychotherapy in London, both at Oxford Circus and in the City, as well as online or telephone sessions when required.
I work with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and relationship issues and provide a confidential and non-judgemental space to think about your experience. Articulating what's on your mind to somebody trained to listen can help create a meaningful shift in itself. But if we work together I will be helping you notice and examine patterns in your behaviour and feelings and take fresh perspectives on your experience. We will also seek to understand how your past might affect how you interact with the world now and your ability to face what life throws at you.
I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy, which means that I will be paying particular attention to what may be going for you unconsciously. Many of us already 'know' what has happened to us; what may be lacking is true emotional understanding of how we are affected. It is this that leads to lasting change.
It can be daunting working out what sort of therapy might be helpful to you, let alone which individual therapist to make contact with. Personal fit is important and we would start with a brief phone conversation at no charge, followed by one or more consultation sessions for you to get a feel for me and my approach. If we agree to continue, sessions would usually be weekly, each lasting for 50 minutes. The process can take some time and often therapy is open-ended, but short-term or time-limited therapy may also be appropriate and we can think about this in our initial consultations.

Fees
My standard fees are £140 for an initial consultation (90 minutes) and £100 for further consultations and ongoing sessions (50 minutes). However, I have a limited number of places at a lower fee for students or people on lower incomes and this can be discussed in our initial phone call.
Training and qualifications
I have an MA from Oxford University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy having trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists and abide by their codes of practice.
I have previously held psychotherapy positions in the charity mental health sector and two NHS Trusts. Alongside my private practice, I work as a psychotherapist in the Trauma Service at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.
