Emma Cullinan
Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
We are all unique, so I use a combination of well-regarded theories to ensure you benefit from the most suitable expertise and research (known as an integrative therapist).
The core of my work is a person-centred, humanistic approach (grounded in the theory of Carl Rogers) but it also includes elements of Freud and Jung (psychoanalysis), Assagioli (psychosynthesis) and existential psychotherapy.
I also sometimes use elements of CBT.
People come to therapy for many different reasons but underlying most of them is loss, change or unhelpful behaviour. Loss and change could involve the ending of a relationship, difficulties within families, career change and bereavement. Unhelpful behaviours often stem from the coping strategies we have devised to get us through life, but which are no longer serving us.
The overall aim of counselling and psychotherapy is to help you explore, discover and clarify ways of improving your life and addressing problems.
The humanistic element of the therapy provides you with a comfortable space in which you can explore the issues you face without being judged or shamed, enabling your voice to be heard and you to be understood. I will reflect what I hear from you to enable you to understand who you are, what you want and how you can address your problems. This will allow you to build up your own sense of self and face the world with more confidence, providing you with long-term strength and capabilities.
My approach does not just concentrate on difficulties but also on your potential.
