About Me

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Confused? Lost as to where to start with finding a counsellor? I can help.

Hi, my name is Ellie and I’m a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working in Cotgrave, Nottingham. I'm an open, non-judgmental, understanding and friendly person who likes to bring an empathic and trusting approach to sessions, ensuring clients feel safe and comfortable to express themselves and learn more about themselves. I've been told I'm very approachable and down to earth in sessions and so I hope this will help you feel at ease. I have a lot of experience counselling in various settings, working with people of all ages. I also hold an updated Enhanced DBS Certificate.

How do I work?

I work online, face to face and via telephone for sessions from Cotgrave, Nottingham.

I work from a pluralistic approach which means I am trained in multiple different kinds of therapy including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred, psychodynamic, humanistic, play therapy and Gestalt to name a few. I get to know each client and their needs and tailor our work together based on what I feel would be most beneficial to them.

What can I help with?

There are a number of topics I can assist with including low mood and depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), bereavement and grief, anger and frustration, relationship issues, phobias, self-defeating behaviours, motivation, panic attacks or simply helping someone work their way through a difficult decision, situation or stage in their life.

What training have I had?

I have my levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 (diploma) in psychotherapeutic counselling and have extensive experience also working with children and young people from the age of 5 in a number of settings. I also have a lot of experience working with children and young people who have extra needs and disabilities, also with people who have autism and ADHD.

I am a keen learner and so I'm always building on my knowledge, skills and understandings via books, courses, podcasts, journals etc.

How do I help a client to settle into counselling?

I understand how difficult counselling and talking can be sometimes, even trying to find the right counsellor for you can be difficult, I’ve been through the process myself. It can feel daunting coming to counselling, particularly if you haven't been before as you may not be sure of what to expect, so I make sure we discuss what counselling is, what you want to gain from it and ensure you are happy with everything before moving forwards. I will answer any questions or worries you may have so that you feel more at ease about the process.

I feel that having a good relationship with my clients in the counselling room is so important, and so to see if we are a good fit, I like to have a quick chat with prospective clients on the phone first to ensure you are also happy to proceed. This would normally be for around 10-15 mins to get to know each other a bit, chat about what has made you reach out for counselling, discuss how we could work together and answer any questions. After this, sessions would be 50 minutes long and are currently held on Monday and Tuesday evenings with the view for daytime sessions becoming available in the near future.
