Meet the Therapist: Jo-Anne Rose
Jo-Anne Rose is an online counsellor
What attracted you to become a therapist?
I loved the idea that I could have a career making a difference in people’s lives by giving them the tools that they need to feel better and happier.
Where did you train?
I trained with the Open University where I gained a Bsc Hons in psychology, I then attended a couple more colleges to gain my CBT diploma and counselling qualifications.
Can you tell us about the type of therapy you practise?
Though I don’t strictly stick to one type of counselling, I do mainly use the person-centred approach as I feel it allows clients to feel more relaxed and comfortable during sessions and it works well for a variety issues.
How does person-centred counselling help with symptoms of low self-esteem?
Person-centred therapy can be very beneficial for things like anxiety and low self-esteem as it encourages personal growth, helps to ease bad thoughts and feelings, as well as giving clients a clearer understanding of themselves. This increased self-understanding will then allow them to explore the way they feel and think about their difficulties and therefore help them to find a solution.
What sort of people do you usually see?
I usually only work with adults. I work with difficulties such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, ADHD, Autism/ASD, emotional abuse, family issues, carers, miscarriage, and OCD, though I can cater for other difficulties too.
What do you like about being a therapist?
Seeing people come through the other side feeling happier and stronger.
How long you’ve been with welldoing.org and what you think of us?
I only joined welldoing.org a couple of weeks ago and have found them supportive and welcoming. I also like the booking system which is quick and easy for therapists and clients to use.
What you do for your own mental health?
I love to spend time with my family and friends and spending time surrounded by nature. I also live very close to the sea which I love going for walks along. I also find music and a good chat very therapeutic.
You are an online therapist. What can you share with us about seeing clients in this way?
I do all my sessions via Skype, FaceTime and phone which allows clients to have sessions in a place that is safe, comfortable and convenient for them.
What do you wish people knew about therapy?
That it can have a very positive effect on the way we think, feel and deal with difficult thoughts, feelings and situations.
