Kavita Golia is a life coach in South West London and online

What attracted you to become a coach?

I have always had had avid interest in the mind and behaviour and I studied psychology at university. I also knew I wanted to be able to guide and help people in some way. When I began my own inner journey with a number of yoga and breath work trainings my path became crystal clear. I knew my purpose was to support people and do my part in empowering and inspiring people to find their inner freedom.

Where did you train?

My initial accredited coaching qualification was with Mindful Talent. This training combined mindfulness and neuroscience. My second training was with the School of Embodied Arts. This focused on feminine embodiment coaching and was hugely influential in my path down the embodiment coaching root.

What kind of coaching do you offer?

My mission is to help as many people to get out of their busy minds and connect with their bodies. My role is to support your goals, whatever they may be and for the movement forward to be in an embodied, authentic way. I use traditional coaching methods, breath work, and embodiment methods to help individuals to move forward in a grounded and powerful way.

How does your type of coaching help people who feel stuck?

My method of coaching helps people to connect with their truth. Our minds tell us many stories, we have deep-rooted patterns of thoughts and we, as a whole are disembodied. We ignore the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle!) signs of our bodies. My type of coaching helps to release trauma, self-limiting beliefs and blocks to full potential. This creates powerful, long-term changes that are sustainable.

What type of coaching clients do you usually see?

I have seen a wide range of clients. From those stuck in their careers. Relationships, imposter syndrome, anxiety and stress management, to fitness goals and spirituality.

Do you ever suggest books or other materials to clients?

Absolutely! One of my all time favourites is The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also love the work of Gabor Mate and Yung Pueblo, podcasts from Jay Shetty, Sah D Simmone, Tim Ferris, and Mark Groves.

There are a couple of fantastic books on breath work also, including Breath: The New Science of Lost Art by James Nestor, and Just Breathe by Dan Brule.

What do you like about being a coach?

I find so much joy in supporting people to feel empowered and find inner freedom. If I can help even just one more person, this causes a ripple effect on the people around them. I find this work extremely fulfilling.

What is less pleasant?

I have to ensure that I look after myself too, I am very invested in my work and I should practice what I preach :)

What is one lesson you try to live by?

Listen to your intuition and your body. Be true to yourself.

What do you wish people knew about coaching?

Coaches are there to be in partnership with clients, supporting people to move forward towards their goals, whatever they may be. Coaching is there to help people make their own decisions and realise what they need themselves; we are the cheerleaders!

Do you have a favourite client testimonial or particular success story?

I do indeed. I helped a young lady deal with some quite heavy trauma through embodiment coaching paired with breath work. As a coach I helped her to integrate feelings rather than figure out where they are from and she had some quite powerful experiences!
