As the seasons change, it’s important to take time out of our busy schedules and reflect on where we are right now. Compared to this time last year, what has changed in your life? Look back over the last 11 months, and ask yourself: are you where you want to be?

If the answer happens to be a no, then my question for you is: how are you going to use the time you have left to your benefit? How are you going to make sure you end 2015 well?

I have friends who tell me about their dissatisfaction with their progress. I ask them, have they invested in themselves in some way?

And the surprising thing is that they haven’t. These are the same people who spend money shopping on new clothes, new shoes, new accessories. Now look, I love a new pair of shoes as much as the next person. It’s great, you look good, you feel good… but after a while the good feelings wear off. It’s a temporary fix. And as the months go by you find yourself stuck in the same place.

One way to break the cycle is to invest in yourself in some way, shape or form. If you only ate one meal a week, would that sustain you? Of course not. So, if you have only one meditation session, say one positive affirmation, or one prayer a week… can that state of inner malnutrition sustain you?

Of course, it can’t.

When I was trying to make a change in my life, one of the first things that really made a difference was life coaching. Now, it’s not for everyone, and it’s not a replacement for help from a doctor if that is what you need. But why did life coaching work for me?

The truth is that if someone comes to you with a solution, ready made, something in your mind rebels against the solution. These days, anyone can find answers: you can get them off Google. But how many of those Top Ten Ways to Make 2015 a Better Year or Top Ten Mistakes to Avoid in Your Twenties did you actually follow through with?

You need to arrive at those solutions yourself, or, psychologically, you won’t be committed to the change. You won’t believe the change. You won’t trust the change. And the change won’t happen.

Life coaching helps you move towards making those actual changes instead of being stuck in the same place. It is a means of helping you arrive at your solutions.

My last thought to take with you is something I’ve been contemplating a lot as the year closes. Just as we reflect on the last eleven months, it’s also important to acknowledge that no one knows what’s around the corner. We all only have one journey. So let's make the most of this new year.
